VIOLACEOUS EUPHONIA Euphonia violacea
Euphonias are an instantly-recognisable group of stubby-billed birds with predominately black and yellow plumage in the male. Once placed with the Tanagers (Thraupidae) they are now considered to be more closely related to the Finches (Fringilldiae). The Violaceous Euphonia is very similar to the smaller Purple-throated Euphonia, but is larger and less widespread (this species being more common in the Alto Paranį region). Note the colour of the male“s throat!
