EASTERN RAINBOW BOA Epicrates crassus
A handsome constrictor, the Eastern Rainbow Boa is a large snake reaching up to 1.5m in length. It is an adaptable species capable of inhabiting both humid and dry areas, where it feeds on small mammals, lizards, birds and their eggs. Note the oily rainbow sheen to the scales, the "rainbow" of the common name. The Chaco and Atlantic Forest subpecies of what was formerly Epicrates cenchria have recently been split into separate species by Passos & Fernandes (2008) - Revision of the Epicrates cenchria complex (Serpentes: Boidae) - Herpetological Monographs 22 p1-30.
