BLACK-BODIED WOODPECKER Dryocopus schulzi CHACO NEAR THREATENED
This large and rarely-encountered woodpecker was for a long time considered conspecific with the Lineated Woodpecker. However the ranges of the two overlap widely in the Chaco and the habitat requirements of this species are far more specific. It is a large woodpecker and it will come as no surprise that his wholly black body is the best means of recognising him!
