RED-BELLIED COLOBOSAUR Colobosaura modesta
A fairly robust member of a family of tiny, fragile, terrestrial lizards - the Gymnopthalmidae. Strongly associated with the cerrado, these lizards are rarely encountered because of their elusive behaviour. This species may be identified by the smooth dorsal scales, the robust head (which gives a "neckless" appearance) and the distinctive colouration, Its known only from Departamentos Amambay and San Pedro in Paraguay, with very few specimens.
