The species in this genus are known as "Sipo Snakes" and are arboreal in habits. They move quickly and smoothly through the trees and are equally adept on land and in water. They hunt lizards and amphibians. There are two very different subspecies in eastern Paraguay. The nominate quadricarinatus in the cerrado and humid chaco, and maculiventris in the dry chaco.
