Callicore sorana sorana (Godart [1824])
ENG: Zigzag Callicore
ESP:
Pará Zigzag
JIZ: Forewing long with smoothly rounded costa and apices and straight outer margin. Hindwing large and rounded with slightly undulated outer margin. Poses with wings folded, forewings almost completely obscured by large hindwing. Can be approachable. No sexual dimorphism. FLI: Flight fast, low and erratic, rarely for long distances and posing suddenly.
UPP: M/F (Fig 1) Forewing mostly black with red base traversed by black veins. Broad red postmedial band and thin orange apical stripe. Hindwing velvet black with diagonal red line beginning basally and reaching medial part of hindwing and dark blue blush to black areas of wing. Undulated outer margin indistinctly lined white on concave areas.
UND: M/F (Fig 1&2) Underside of forewing similar to that of dorsal side but paler, with broader yellowish (not orange) apical stripe and thin blue submarginal line from apex to about halfway down outer margin. Outer margin with pattern of intermittent whitish dashes along length. Hindwing pattern bold and diagnostic. Centrepiece is a well-formed "80" design with thin blue border and spaces, framed in thick blackish boxes which themselves are framed within the yellow base colour of the wing. A broad black concentic band, containing broad pale blue blotches is located basally, parallel to the body. Diagnostic broad black postmedial concentric band framing  thin, but clear blue zigzag pattern is quite unlike that of any of other species. Outer margin black with pattern of pale blue-white dashes arranged intermittently along edge.
BOD: No information.
MMT: A large Callicore. No information available for Paraguay. Canals (2003) gives a CL of 25-27mm.
SSP:
Much the largest of the Callicores, the distinctive Zigzag pattern on the ventral hindwing renders it unmistakeable.

ABU: Uncommon to frequent in suitable habitat.
HAB: Humid forest and edge.
HOS: Plants in the family Annonaceae including Annona and Sapindaceae such as Serjania (Canals 2003).
