BAIRD´S SANDPIPER Calidris bairdii
The little Baird´s Sandpiper embarks on an annual round-trip that takes him from his Arctic breeding grounds to the coasts of southern Chile and Argentina and back again. On the southbound route a few individuals pass through Paraguay where they may be encountered in small numbers in the Chaco and Bay of Asunción. Unlike other small sandpipers Baird´s tends to feed in muddy or grassy areas away from the water´s edge - he doesn´t like to get his feet wet!
