SANDERLING Calidris alba
Though it might be hard to believe for Northern hemisphere birders, finding a Sanderling in inland Paraguay is a majorly big deal. Its a passage migrant that is usually coastal on its southbound migration, but every now and again an individual tries to do it the hard way and joins the thousands of other waders that use the Central Chaco and bays along the Paraguay river as a refuelling stop before continuing on to their wintering grounds further south.
