SOUTHERN NAKED-TAILED ARMADILLO Cabassous unicinctus
Smith P 2011 - FAUNA Paraguay Handbook of the Mammals of Paraguay Number 40 Southern Naked-tailed Armadillo Cabassous unicinctus
Pdf file 2.07mb

Long suspected as occurring in Paraguay, this species was finally confirmed in the extreme northern Oriental region of Paraguay by Smith et al (2011) First records of  Southern Naked-tailed Armadillo Cabassous unicinctus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Xenarthra: Dasypodidae) in Paraguay - Edentata 12. In fact specimens of this species already existed but had previously been misidentified as the much larger Cabassous tatouay. To date all known Paraguay specimens are from sandy-soiled cerrado areas in the Departamentos San Pedro and Amambay.
