SWAINSON´S HAWK Buteo swainsoni
Most often seen in the western Chaco on their southbound migration, the Swainson´s Hawk is a long-winged Buteo that is often seen in flocks (at least when migrating). This species frequently feeds on the ground, being particularly fond of Orthopterans (grasshoppers and crickets). It has declined alarmingly over the last few decades as a result of changing farming practices on its wintering grounds in northern Argentina.
