GREAT HORNED-OWL Bubo virginianus
The largest owl in Paraguay and indeed the Americas, the Great Horned-Owl has to be seen to be believed. In Paraguay his distribution is mainly in the Chaco where he can be surprisingly numerous in some areas. The Guaraní name Ñakurutú is an onomatopeic rendition of his deep booming call.
