YARARÁ LANCEHEAD Bothrops jararaca
Though less deadly than the Tropical Rattlesnake, this species is responsible for far more fatalities on account of its more aggressive nature. As with all Lanceheads these snakes should be treated with the utmost of respect and do not get any closer than you need to - they are capable of jumping large distances! This is the only Bothrops that is semi-arboreal, so careful when you lean against that tree in the Atlantic Forest - the camouflage of this snake renders it almost invisible against a leafy backdrop.
