JIZ: Forewings with distinctly rounded apices. Hindwings rounded with wavy outer margin. No sexual dimorphism. Approachable, posing with wings open in sunny areas. FLI: Flight straight and purposeful.
UPP: M/F (Fig 1&3) Forewing black, slightly greyer towards outer margin. Hindwing black with broad red band along trailing edge, thinly bordered black on the undulated outer margin. Worn individuals (Fig 2) brownish with pinker band on trailing edge.
UND: M/F (Fig 3) Forewing as upperwing but slightly browner. Hindwing similar but with pinkish band and three small red spots arranged in a triangle located basally.
BOD: Eyes black with white spot between them at the base of the labial palps.
Labial palps black with white subterminal line. Two pairs of white spots on the rear of the head and neck respectively and a small white spot behind each eye. Upperside of thorax and abdomen wholly brownish-black. Two feather-like appendages protude from middle of upper abdomen when handled. Underside of body uniformly greyish-brown. Legs grey-brown.
MMT: A medium-large Biblid. CL - 30.1mm (29-31mm); BL - 20.5mm (20-21mm); AB - 10.8mm (10-11mm); WS - 61.8mm (59-64.5mm); HW - 3.5mm (3-4mm); AL - 13.6mm (13-14mm); n=4 (4M).
SSP:
Probably unmistakeable on account of its simple and distinctive black and red patternation.

ABU: Frequent to abundant in some areas.
HAB: Most common in humid forest and edge, less common in gardens in humid areas.
HOS: Plants in the family Euphorbiaceae such as Tragia (Canals 2003).
