CRIMSON-NOSED RAT Bibimys chacoensis
With their short ears, short tail and enlarged claws Crimson-nosed Rats are adapted for a fossorial existence. They inhabit marshy grasslands but because of their underground lifestyle they are rarely encountered. This species can be immediately recognised by its crimson nose! This species has only recently been documented for Paraguay thanks to the important work of the Centro de Mastozoologia de Paraguay.
