SHORT-BILLED CANASTERO Asthenes baeri
Looking for all the world like a spinetail, the Short-billed Canastero inhabits the driest, spiniest areas of the Chaco. Here he builds his domed nest out of the same thorny twigs that surround him, creating an impenetrable spiny fortress in which to raise his young. Canastero means "basket-maker" in Spanish, in reference to the nest, and as might be expected, the Canstero´s put all their eggs in one basket!
