TURQUOISE-FRONTED AMAZON Amazona aestiva
A popular cagebird, but despite persecution for the pet trade this handsome parrot is still common in many parts of Paraguay. The Spanish name "Loro Hablador" literally "Talking Parrot" reflects the remarkable intelligence of this species and its ability to imitate human speech, often with unerring accuracy. This bird mixes brains with beauty, adorned with green, blue, yellow and a striking orange "flash" on the wing, usually visible only when the bird is in flight. But despite their good looks they are loyal spouses and are invariably encountered in affectionate pairs.
