BLACK HOWLER Alouatta caraya
Black Howlers are the largest Neotropical monkeys and are famed for the deep, bellowing calls that ring out across the forest. Males are entirely black, with a bearded face, females are quite different, being wholly creamy white. Howlers live in small troops of about 10 individuals that usually contain more than one male. Strangely the diet of Howlers consists almost exclusively of leaf matter - they are folivorous!
