YELLOW-FACED PARROT Alipiopsitta xanthops NEAR THREATENED CERRADO
A new addition to the Paraguayan bird list in 2012 was an extraordinary find by Andres Álvarez of this handsome cerrado endemic parrot, that is apparently fairly widespread in Concepción Department. Álvarez (2012) reports flocks of up to 15 birds during April 2012 and notes that the species is known to the locals and even kept in captivity in some areas. Though officially near threatened, evidence from Brazil suggests the species is actually expanding its range (F. Straube in litt.) You can download the publication of this important record here:
