LESSER SHRIKE-TYRANT Agriornis murina
The Shrike-Tyrants are a small group of predominately greyish birds with powerfully-hooked bills. The largest species are voracious predators able to hunt small birds and mammals, but this species is the smallest of the group and prefers to concentrate on insects and other invertebrates. Shrike-Tyrants are semi-terrestrial birds, closely-related to the Monjitas, and reach their greatest diversity in Patagonia and Chile. This species is a very rare winter visitor to the dry Chaco of Paraguay.
