2010 EXPEDITION TOUR
Introduction:
One a year, this is our guide´s annual jaunt to a new and unexplored area of the country in search of new sites for rare birds and other wildlife. We travel light, eat on the move and visit remote and uninhabited areas where the only place to stay is a tent. For a special low cost and with limited places available we offer the opportunity to hardcore travellers to join us on these voyages of discovery. There is no telling what we might find!

Main Targets:
Who knows what we will find! The whole point of this trip is that we find new stuff!
Recommended duration:
The 2010 expedition will be a 10 day trip.
Best time to visit:
The 2010 expedition is scheduled for June/July or November 2010 according to the availability of clients.
Itinerary:
We will be making the itinerary up as we go along! Our aim is to get off the beaten track in search of new sites with potential for rare, localised and new species to be included in future tour itineraries.
(Itineraries are subject to change according to levels of animal activity or client´s preference.)
What else might we see?:
The expedition tour 2010 takes us into the rarely-visited Concepción area in search of potential new sites for some of the localised bird and animal specialities of that area. Amongst our target species will be the rarely-seen Reiser´s Tyrannulet, the stunning Crimson-crested Woodpecker, the impressive Hyacinth Macaw and two extremely localised furnarids, the Planalto Foliage-gleaner and the Henna-capped Foliage-gleaner. Other bird species typical of this area include Pied Lapwing, White-bellied Warbler and Grey-headed Tanager, and with this region having been almost entirely neglected by birders there are real possibilities of finding some new additions to the country avifauna. Rufous-sided Pygmy-tyrant is a bird known only from historical records in Paraguay precisely from the region we will be visiting and one of our tasks will be to try to locate and document existing populations of this elusive, globally-threatened bird. Along the Rio Apa we will be looking for bat roosts as well as regional specialities such as Boat-billed Heron, Blue-throated Piping-guan, Spectacled Owl and Blaze-winged Parakeet. Without doubt we will contribute significantly to the known distributions of birds in this little-visited region of the country. Additionally we will be documenting butterfly and moth species with some light-trapping after dark and (if the trip takes place in November) we will also pay attention to reptile and amphibian species that we encounter.
Note that this trip is a no-frills affair with investigation and discovery as its principle objectives. Some camping is likely to be involved and we will be eating on the move to fit as much field time in as possible. This is a trip for those who like to get off the beaten track, are keen to explore and who get more pleasure from new discoveries than a comfortable bed!!
